Application Process
Application
Applications for the UAGCGP are submitted online to the UA Graduate College. The Graduate College uses the GradApp Graduate Admission Application, which can be found at https://apply.grad.arizona.edu/. You can use this link to submit your application and to check the status of your application.
CV
The CV should include details on education, employment, teaching, advocacy, volunteer, counseling, healthcare and research experiences. In addition, competitive applicants will show a demonstrated interest in the field of genetic counseling. This can include shadowing genetic counselors, participating in genetic counseling internship programs, meeting and speaking with local genetic counselors or attending in-person or virtual meeting/conferences/webinars on the field of genetic counseling. Individuals with experience working in other healthcare or counseling settings will also be considered as strong applicants for the program.
GRE Scores
The UAGCGP does not require or review GRE scores for applicants.
English Proficiency
The University of Arizona Graduate College requires proof of English proficiency for international applicants who hold citizenship in a country where English is not the official language. Please see additional information on accepted exams and scores on the Graduate College Admissions webpage. The preferred method is to have your GRE/English Proficiency scores sent electronically from your testing center. The University of Arizona institution code is 4832.
Statement of Purpose
The statement of purpose is a personal statement describing your journey to the field of genetic counseling and your academic and professional goals. Please describe any unique qualifications or experiences, your motivation for pursuing the field of genetic counseling, and your interest in the profession. The word limit for the statement of purpose is 500 words. Please submit as a PDF file.
Letters of Recommendation
Three professional letters of recommendation are required for admissions from individuals who can speak to your prior experiences and preparation for a graduate program in genetic counseling. At least one must be from an employer or individual who supervised your work in some capacity. Letters from personal friends or family members are not acceptable. No more than four letters of recommendation will be accepted.
Transcripts
Unofficial PDF copies of your transcripts must be uploaded as part of your application in GradApp.

Application Fees
The fee for domestic applications is $85 and the fee for international applications is $95.
GC Admissions Match
The UAGCGP will participate in the NMS Match System for the 2023 - 2024 academic year. For more information on the GC Admissions Match, visit https://natmatch.com/gcadmissions/.
Deferring Admission
Students admitted to the UAGCGP will not be eligible for routine admission deferral. Deferrals will only be considered under extreme circumstances.
